The Philippine Utility Dog Association or PUDA is the first and only organization in the Philippines that conducts and certifies dogs that pass its protection dog trials. It was founded in 1998 by friends, Noel Austria, Tessa Daza, James Tan, Howard Santos and Ed Pesayco. It was offically launched on November 30, 1998 and is affiliated with the Nationaal Verbond van Belgische Kynologen (NVBK) of Belgium.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
PUDA's goal in conducting its trials is to safeguard and improve the quality of the working dogs being bred and trained in the country. The trial exercises will give us a glimpse of what a sound, agile, and good-tempered dog should be. The trial shall also serve as a venue for local breeders and trainers to showcase their finished product, thus, helping other breeders and trainers improve and upgrade their standard.
TRIALS
The PUDA trials are divided into 3 categories; PUDA Sport Dog Trial, PUDA Reality Trial, and PUDA Obedience Trial. Any breed of dog is allowed to join the trials provided they can perform the exercises required. Dogs that pass the standard shall be issued a certificate of title depending on what category they passed.
In any PUDA trials, the judge has the discretion to set the trial ring in a manner he choses. Distraction materials are used to increase the difficulty of each attack exercises. All of which are kept secret to the competitors until the day of the trial.
Every last quarter of the year, a PUDA National Championships shall be held among dogs that attained the required average point for the trials that it had competed for the current year. The National Championships shall be for the PUDA Sport Levels 1, 2, & 3.
Trials may be conducted upon request by organized training clubs. In such case, the host club must provide for the venue and equipment, and the necessary materials needed in the trial. The PUDA in return, shall send the team of judges to officiate the said trial.
